Darryl Cousins is an English author born in Hampstead, north London in 1969. His first awakenings came in the aftermath of the punk explosion of late 1970's England. A time of financial struggle and social explosion. In the 80´s he discovered the books of Elmore Leonard, the music of Bob Marley, and a nagging desire to write. He came of age in the late 80´s, with the cultural revolution of the ´2nd Summer of Love´, a time of warehouse parties, all-night raves, festivals, and house parties. A time of expanded consciousness and new ideas…
His first job came working on a flower stall outside The Crown pub on Cricklewood Broadway. Here he experienced firsthand the characters and misfits of old-school London, the small-time villains, and the big-time Charlie’s!
For 10 years he drifted in and out of various jobs, from local cinemas to selling overpriced women’s jeans in the biggest department store in the heart of the West End. From motorway service stations to decorating window displays all around the UK. All the while reading more and more; Bukowski, Fante, Hemingway, Murakami, Orwell, Kerouac…Absorbing it all, seeing everything.
Relocating to Brighton, on the south coast of England, he began to write. Tentatively at first, then with more confidence. Balancing a job as a gardener for the local council, with his passion for music, photography, and writing, he was never without a pen and a notepad.
In his mid-forties, he moved to Almeria, in southern Spain, a place he now calls home. Darryl has two books to his name. A short story and poetry collection entitled ´Fishes, Fights and Motorbikes´, and his first novel, entitled ¨Run Dani Run´. Both are self-published to Amazon.
